Working with an Educational Organization

Over a period of four years, The Development Source worked very closely with the Executive Vice President of a large minority-serving education organization in Northern Virginia to establish strong federal programs for students and faculty at 40 colleges and universities. As a result of our proposals, the organization received large, multi-year grants from the US Department of Defense, the US Army, the US Air Force, the US Department of Education, the US Department of Energy, the US Environmental Protection Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Today, this organization has a separate federal program division that receives over $10 million annually in federal grants.

In addition, we created winning proposals to a wide variety of foundations and corporate giving sources. These included the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Merck & Co., AFL-CIO, and the Lilly Endowment.

Working with a Hospital

The Development Source has worked closely with physicians and medical researchers at a hospital in Miami, Florida to increase the amount of research dollars from foundations and government funding via state and federal agencies. We helped the hospital establish a new pediatric dental residency program for underserved populations through a multi-year grant from the National Institutes of Health.

The Development Source helped the Principal Investigator, who had no prior federal grant experience, to conceptualize a dental residency program and develop the basic themes of the proposal. Afterward, we worked closely with the Principal Investigator to write the entire proposal narrative.

Working with a Civic Education Organization

The Development Source assisted a civic education organization in Indiana that wanted to boost its visibility and programs by garnering more grant support from foundations and government agencies. We helped create proposals to the Pew Charitable Trusts, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Paul Ogle Foundation, AT & T Foundation, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. As a result, the organization gained considerable financial support to promote civic education, especially among young people.

Working with a Family Planning and HIV/AIDS Organization

A large international family planning and HIV/AIDS organization in Washington, DC hired The Development Source to bolster its fundraising efforts. After analyzing the organization’s strategic plan, we worked with a Web designer/publisher to create a new Web site and brochure.

At the same time, The Development Source worked with program staff in Africa and Asia to develop two winning multi-year proposals totaling over $70 million to a foundation. These funds will support growing family planning programs in Sudan, Mozambique, Indonesia, and India.
